Dear PS/IS 49 Parents and Guardians,
The Summer Rising Application process will open onMonday March 4, 2024. (very soon I know) In previous years the application has opened in April, however I'm hoping that the application opening in March will allow for parents to better plan for the summer!
Please note that the application window will be from March 4 until March 25, 2024.
**SEATS ARE NOT ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS** Parents who submit an application on March 25 will be given the same priority as those who apply on March 4th.
When completing the Summer Rising application parents will list multiple schools within the DOE however PS/IS 49 should be your first option if you intend for your child to attend 49's summer program.
Students will be given priority at their current school. Therefore 49 students will be given priority at 49's program.
You will be notified if your child was given a seat in April.
What is the Summer Rising?
Summer Rising 2024 is a partnership between New York City Public Schools and the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Summer Rising is free and available to all NYC students in grades K-8, pending seat availability.
The program will run from July 2, 2024 until August 16, 2024 - for Elementary students and July 2 until August 9th for Middle School students.
Elementary school students will be dismissed at 6pm whereas Middle school student will be dismissed at 4pm.
*Please note that a big change to this years summer rising program is that the middle school program is Monday to Thursday only. Middle school students will not attend on Friday's.*
Monday through Thursday students in grades K–8 will include a mix of academic support, social emotional learning, and enrichment activities until 12:00pm. Academics will be provided by licensed teachers in the morning. After 12pm students will be in a camp like setting with Maspeth Town Hall where they will do enrichment activities (such as art, sports, and play).
How to apply to the Summer Rising program?
Applications will be submitted using your NYC MySchools account (linked below)
Please note this is the same website that parents used to apply for Kindergarten, Middle school and High schools.
Parents/ Guardians will sign in with their email address.
